VIDEO RECAP: WEEK 19

What do you get if you mix a gold tooth, some seals and an introspective question?

You get my week in Cape Town.

Here’s what happened during my 19th week on the road.

*          *          *

[MAY 9] Welcome to the first episode of “Gear Review” – a feature where I’ll highlight the best of what’s working for me on the road. Today I talk about camera/laptop bag called “The Karachi Outpost” by Crumpler.

*          *          *

[MAY 10] The Parlotones are regarded as South Africa’s best known rock band. I stumbled across them at a charity event at the base of Table Mountain in Cape Town.

*          *          *

[MAY 11] Little video. Big Question.

*          *          *

[MAY 12] The Iziko South African Museum provides a glimpse into “the earth and its biological and cultural diversity, past and present.” I liked it because it sounded like whales.

*          *          *

[MAY 13] A quick glimpse at the store/art space where I’ve been hanging out in Cape Town, South Africa.

*          *          *

[MAY 14] At the docks in Hout Bay, the folks like to play with the seals. Everyone loves a seal.

*          *          *

[MAY 15] My friend Moses recounts the tale of how his gold tooth came to be.

    Oh wow!!! I love that backback! and in the video at the museum I SO thought the cheetahs were real. It must be so awesome getting such rich culture from everywhere. I always love your posts. I can’t wait to travel myself.

      I used to collect rocks by the way, so I really thought those were cool (:

    Hmm I like the South African accent- sounds innocent! Dunno about seals – they kinda stink – no? Absolutely love the seventies 80′s era and the store….and oh yeah- How far? Well this way of thinking almost made me buy a couple safari suits – you think they could be cool?

    I know I’m just restating a well-known fact here, but you’re awesome, Daniel.

    The Seventies/80s space reminds me of a neat vintage/thrift store back in Dallas’ Deep Ellum neighborhood. And I’m trying to peg just who the Parlotones remind me of, sound-wise.

    And would you believe we have Inca Kola here in Los Angeles? My boyfriend ran across the stuff when we were grocery shopping a few months back and got so excited. He opened the bottle at home, I smelled it, and backed away. I did taste it, though, and it all reminded me of a really strong pink bubble gum.

      Inca Kola is taking over the world!

      It kinda makes me gag, but I respect the choice to consume.

      PS: You’re awesomer!

        It’s not taking over the UK unfortunately… :(
