NOVEMBER HOST: BIG BROTHER MOUSE
When it came to choosing my November destination, for the longest time I couldn’t make up my mind. I had not visited anywhere in Southeast Asia before, and thought that perhaps now was the time.
I began to casually inquire among the travellers that I met on the road. Where was good? I had heard horror stories about Vietnam. Thailand seemed friendly, but perhaps a bit over-trodden on the international backpackers scene. Cambodia could be an option.
But as I was sitting with a beautiful Irish woman named Eimear over delicious Israeli food in one of Nazareth’s most swanky restaurants, a wonderful option was suggested.
‘There’s a really lovely town in Laos called Luang Prabang. I volunteered at an organization called Big Brother Mouse as an English tutor. You should check it out,’ suggested Eimear.
And so I decided to do just that.
EXPECTATIONS:
- To help some young folks improve their English skills
- To visit the local Buddhist temples
- To eat in the night markets
- To learn more about a nation that I know so little about
