PHOTO ESSAY: AN INDIAN HOTEL ROOM
I have had a long time fascination with hotel rooms. There is something comforting, yet transitory about these temporary spaces. I’ve experienced the gamut of options, ranging from boutique bliss in New York City to bedbug infested terror in Buenos Aires to the diverse options here in India. Here are seven photos from one room at the Residency in Old Goa.
There was a balcony with two plastic chairs. I’m the walls could talk, they might explain the stains.
There was a TV and a chair. During my 16 hour of occupancy, I used only one of these objects.
Hint: It wasn’t the TV.
The double bed was actually two single beds squished together, which seems to be standard in India. Upon returning from dinner, I found a cockroach on my pillow. After ten months on the road, I have become relatively unfazed by insects. I brushed him off and went to sleep.
The bathroom was equipped with a hotel water shower. But I couldn’t get it to function. So I cleaned in the Indian style of throwing water over myself with a bucket.
The toilet had a murky whiteness to it. As if Frosty The Snowman had occupied the room before me and failed to flush his bowel movement. On further inspection there was a chemically smell that appealed to my Western sensibilities.
The pink framed mirror was a nice final touch.

We loved the pictures and the way you tell the story about the hotel, FUN! Hopefully we can hear more about those crazy hotels in different part of the worlds, I wonder what this hotel has to say. So many things seems to had happened in that bed. Good luck with your trip! And keep on posting! Great stuff.
