My time in South Africa has come to a close. When I look back at the videos of my last seven days in Cape Town, I see a week that is arguably the most meaningful in all my travels.
The great thing about Cape Town is that one can climb a mountain and go for a Turkish bath in the same day. I didn’t do this. But it is theoretically possible. Just sayin’.
What do you get if you mix a gold tooth, some seals and an introspective question? You get my week in Cape Town.
Cape Town initiated me with a quick and painless mugging. And then she swiftly offered up some great music, stunning scenery and new friends. How could I possibly complain?
It was my last week in Buenos Aires, and my last week in the “Americas.” To recognize the closing of this chapter, I decided to become a Porteño. And speaking of chapter, I started a book club!
I was excited to find a good balance this week between pointing the camera at myself and pointing the camera local people and culture. What do you prefer? Baylis footage? Or locational footage?
I think I’ve found my Argentinian groove. It involves hangin’ out in cemeteries, eating sausage and riding on introspective trains. Oh, Buenos Aires, you had me at “bidet.”
Well that was certainly a week! There were seven days to it. And as a result, I have seven new videos to tantalize your senses! My personal favorite was the tango dancers. But I’m a romantic fool for that type of stuff.
It was a week of transitions, leaving Trujillo and heading to Lima for a couple day. And there was that fateful layover in La Paz (Bolivia), and then the joy of arriving to Buenos Aires. I think I might be a fan of this city.
My last full week in Trujillo was optimized with a trip to see the erotic artifacts at Cassinelli Museum, a couple more glimpses inside a rambunctious Peruvian classroom and a clip of a funny-looking tall guy doing a backflip.
The week started out strong with some energetic greetings from the kids in La Esperanza. And it continued with a bit of an archelogical tour and another mountain tackling! But my proudest moment of the week was undoubtedly the release of my first short film, “I Went to Huanchaco.”
